Get ready, big daddy, for the 30th Annual Cruise Night to benefit Safety City it's set for Saturday October 13th, from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m.. We'll have a cruise, dance, car show, and many other activities that will be fun for the entire family.
March 19, 2012 Cruise Night is a major fund raising event for Abilene’s 'Safety City', which is operated by the Abilene Police Department, Abilene Fire Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety . Safety City is designed to teach young children about traffic and pedestrian safety laws. Classes are set up through area schools in Abilene and surrounding towns. This year, Cruise Night will be held Saturday, October 13th. This marks the 30th year we have held Cruise Night.
October 25, 2011 The 29th Annual KEAN-105 Cruise Night to benefit Safety city was a huge success. One law enforcement officer estimated between four to five thousand people were in attendance. The real reason for the huge attendance was the cars, trucks and motor-cycles. Saturday night was hopping at the K-Mart parking lot with the Kirk House Band on tap for live entertainment. The Abilene Firefighters and A.P.D. managed to cook the wonderful Boars Head hot dogs, while Chili's made the chicken Fajitas available.
October 18, 2011 The 29th Annual Cruise Night is this Saturday and benefits Safety City. As you are probably aware, Cruise Night was originally slated for October 8th but was rescheduled due to rain. All activities will proceed as originally planned.
October 18, 2011 Johnny Dee, the band founder, leader and front-man for Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's, passed away on Monday evening at approximately 6:30PM after arriving home from a weekly treatment at an Austin dialysis treatment center. Dee's real name is Keith Landers he was 60 years old and was a 1969 graduate of Abilene High School. Dee had resided in Austin for the past 40 plus years. Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88's were still performing regularly, mostly on weekends all over the state.
October 11, 2011 The 29th Annual Cruise Night has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 22nd. All activities will proceed as originally planned, just on a different date, thanks to the blessing of rain we got this past weekend.
October 6, 2011 This will be the 29th Annual KEAN 105 Cruise Night and the route we will be taking a more nostalgic night. Taking it old school the cruise for 2011 will be from the old K-Mart on North 1st to the old Mac Eplen's at 1st and Shelton, around Mac's back on to North 1st heading west to the old K-Mart and back around again. WOW! That just brought back old memories of when I was in high school and we'd get some Eats and cold soft drinks at Mac's or Milano's on North 1st street. I wished I could still fit into my old Abilene High School letter jacket. I would be wearing it this Saturday during the cruise from 5 till 7 PM. After the cruise is over we will all go to the new K-Mart parking lot on South 1st street for the 29th Annual Sock Hop Dance and Car Show.
September 29, 2011 Get ready for the 29th Annual Cruise Night. This years event is set for Saturday, October 8th. We'll have a blast with all the classic vehicles, as well as dancing under the stars to the sounds of the Kirk House Band.
