Stoney LaRue was born in Texas but raised in Oklahoma. His name is Stoney LaRue Phillips and he has a brother, Bo Phillips, who is also in the music business. Stoney began playing music at an early age but it wasn't until college that he began to take it to a more serious level. Stoney befriended other Oklahoma musicians like Jason Boland, Mike McClure and Cody Canada. They would get together, have jam sessions and play around town together. In 2002 he released his first album, Downtown, with The Organic Boogie Band.

Stoney then released his first solo album in 2005. Since then he's been a mainstay on the Texas/Red Dirt circuit. He's played, bars and private parties to festivals to singing the National Anthem at a Texas Rangers baseball game. His following albums included Live at Billy Bobs, Red Dirt Album, Velvet and now Aviator.

Live at Billy Bobs and Red Dirt Album were great party albums with songs about real life that everyone related too. Velvet was a little more of an 'artistic' work for LaRue and it didn't seem to resonate with the fans as much. With the first single 'Golden Shackles' and video release of 'First One to Know' LaRue seems to be back with a great album that will please fans and critics alike.

You will be able to check it out for yourselves September 11 when Stoney performs right here in Abilene. He's hit a few personal bumps recently but he's over those humps now and ready to get back to the music and fans!
