During the spring of 2011, the KEAN studio window ledge has been visited by several different species of birds like several cardinals, a couple blue jays a red headed finch, a yellow headed woodpecker and now lately we have a young (I stand corrected ) Kestrel Falcon hanging out on the KEAN studios window ledge. The Kestrel Falcon first appeared on Friday Morning, December 2nd and it's still here today, squawking at the other falcon this little guy sees in the windows reflection. The reason I was confused as to whether the bird was a Peregrine or Kestrel is because they favor each other.

I didn't know much about falcons, Kestrel, Peregrine or other wise, but last Friday that would change, I've become quite informed on Peregrines and Kestrel Falcons lately, they are very aggressive even though it's a "very cute little bird" as the ladies in the office refer to it as. In my knowledge search of falcons this little guy that my boss named "Bart" can kill just like it's cousin the Peregrine, only it prefers smaller prey like bugs, mice and an occasional dove. Peregrines have been known to kill red-tailed hawks a bird that's three times it's size. Finally the peregrine falcon is the fastest animal on the planet because it' can fly at speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour. The Kestrel Falcon is not as fast but uses it's speed as well to it's advantage during hunting. I just wished I knew a falconer so that I could help this KEAN window ledge visitor.
