Missouri Lawmaker Calls For Tax on Violent Video Games

VG Violence

A Missouri lawmaker wants there to be a 1% sales tax for violent video games.

According to The Huffington Post, Representative Diane Franklin (R – Camdenton) said that the sales tax, “would finance mental health programs and law enforcement measures to prevent mass shootings.” This is part of the growing focus on violence (specifically gun violence), and whether or not violent video games cause an increase in violence.

Just last week, Vice Presiden Joe Biden and his task force met with several groups, including representatives from the entertainment and video game industries, to discuss gun violence.

Whether or not the tax increase will go through remains to be seen, but so far no plans to tax video games have been successful in other states, such as Oklahoma and New Mexico.

What do you think about the proposed tax on gaming? Let us know in the comments below.
