For the record, he never took his hat off. Yes, Dwight Yoakam is awesome. I have seen him perform live on several occasions. My most memorable time was at the Taylor County Coliseum when my wife and I went backstage and I asked him how many hats he owned.

I will confess I am a huge fan, and I love Dwight's Elvis leg wiggle. Yoakam back in the day was considered "West Coast Rockabilly" or "Bakersfield Sound's New Traditionalist". In fact, he is truly a straight-to-the-core country artist. Dwight has always kept his music new and always welcomed other country artists onto his stage.

A good example of Dwight's openness to working with others and bringing new sounds to country music are the duets he has performed:

  • Buck Owens - "Streets of Bakersfield"
  • Sheryl Crow - "Baby Don't Go"
  • Michelle Branch - "Long Goodbye"
  • Willie Nelson - "Crazy"
  • Patty Loveless - "Send a Message to My Heart"
  • Dierks Bentley - "Hold On You"
