Funny man Rodney Carrington will be In Abilene this Saturday at the Civic Center at 7 p.m. What you may not know about Rodney is, he is a very giving person. So much so, that he has his own 'Rodney Carrington Foundation' that gives money to multiple charities. Last Thursday Sept. 6th he presented a $50,000 check to one of his home-town charities.

My first impression of Rodney Carrington was, he is one funny, sick, dirty-minded, dark individual. In fact I really got a big kick out of the comedy routine when he played golf and had to use is socks as toilet paper at the Country Club Golf Course. Then I learned of the much softer, caring, compassionate and very generous person that likes helps others. So when you go to the show and after it's all over with remind yourself, 'there are people who will benefit from you buying a ticket to the show.

The Rodney Carrington Foundation's mission statement is: "To measurably improve the lives of individuals, families and organizations by uniting the resources of donors, volunteers, agencies and the community."  The foundation was initiated in 2010 by the Carrington family in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The foundation is made up of 7 trustees and a full time staff member. The Rodney Carrington Foundation has applied for recognition as a 501(c)(3) organization with the Internal Revenue Service and is actively evaluating opportunities to support several local and national charities through ongoing events.
