Sheriff Les Bruce has issued Taylor County’s first ever Dog House Warrant ordering me, Rudy 'Fearless Fernandez' to be confined in the Rescue-SPCA dog house at Catclaw and Southwest Drive from 4pm Friday April 13 until 7pm Saturday, April 14.
Bo Green, Abilene Christian Universities mathematics professor begun his battle against cancer on the very day he retired from ACU. The day professor Bo started his chemotherapy in Houston, he met 19 year old Samantha also from Abilene. The two became friends and fought their cancer fight together, until Samantha lost her battle in November 2011. Now Professor Bo will walk the Relay for Life in Abilene as a real, 26-mile 385-yard marathon in honor of Samantha.
What is in essence an Easter egg hunt for college kids, has been dubbed (by the Hardin Simmons University students) the 'Egg Scramble'. The eggs (approximately 1,400 eggs) will be hidden inside of the Richardson Library on the HSU campus. The eggs are stuffed with great prizes too.
Due to bad weather, the Center for Contemporary Arts and event organizers have cancelled Car walk for tonight. Car Walk will be rescheduled in July
Art Walk happens every second Thursday of the month, however Car Walk is only once a year. Car-Walk will be from 5pm till 8pm in downtown Abilene, most of the action will take place in front of the Center for Contemporary Arts at 220 Cypress.
Next Tuesday February 28th the Town Square Media Career 'Career Fair and Expo' will open at the Abilene Civic Center. Show organizer Kim Meyer said that various local business will be on hand to assist and answer questions for the career fair attendees. The events is scheduled to take place from 9am till 6pm and is open to the public.
The Center for Contemporary Arts hosts Art-Walk the second Thursday of every month, Art-Walk is free and open to the public. On many occasions the Center for Contemporary Arts, features the work of local artisans, at the March 8th Art-Walk, Roberts Studio will be hosting the art from eight Hardin Simmons University students. The upcoming exhibition is by art students Alx Dockter, William Wright, Sandra Deanda, Kayla Beall, Sarah Davidson, Lauren Jay, Alyssa Derrick, and Cesar Matera. The exhibition will be called, “Misconstructions,” utilizing several mediums, done by the eight seniors that are set to graduate May 2012.

The 29th Annual KEAN-105 Cruise Night to benefit Safety city was a huge success. One law enforcement officer estimated between four to five thousand people were in attendance. The real reason for the huge attendance was the cars, trucks and motor-cycles. Saturday night was hopping at the K-Mart parking lot with the Kirk House Band on tap for live entertainment. The Abilene Firefighters and A.P.D. managed to cook the wonderful Boars Head hot dogs, while Chili's made the chicken Fajitas available.
The 29th Annual Cruise Night is this Saturday and benefits Safety City. As you are probably aware, Cruise Night was originally slated for October 8th but was rescheduled due to rain. All activities will proceed as originally planned.
This will be the 29th Annual KEAN 105 Cruise Night and the route we will be taking a more nostalgic night. Taking it old school the cruise for 2011 will be from the old K-Mart on North 1st to the old Mac Eplen's at 1st and Shelton, around Mac's back on to North 1st heading west to the old K-Mart and back around again. WOW! That just brought back old memories of when I was in high school and we'd get some Eats and cold soft drinks at Mac's or Milano's on North 1st street. I wished I could still fit into my old Abilene High School letter jacket. I would be wearing it this Saturday during the cruise from 5 till 7 PM. After the cruise is over we will all go to the new K-Mart parking lot on South 1st street for the 29th Annual Sock Hop Dance and Car Show.
It's time for the 17th annual Big Country Balloon Fest this weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Red Bud Park in Abilene. It' first flights will take off around first light every morning at approximately 6:30AM. The evening glows will take place every evening except Sunday right at dusk which is around 8PM. The Optimist Club Unlimited of Abilene hosts the balloon fest every year and a quick reminder that the balloon pilots and balloon fest is always subject to what mother nature dishes out. This years balloon fest offers a wider variety of food, games and booths. There is no charge to get in to see balloon fest, however if you want to play the games, ride the rides or eat bring cash. Balloon Fest is a non-profit fundraiser for the Optimist Club.
Jacob Reicheneker is the beneficiary of this awesome Memorial Day Music Festival. Jacob made news in West Texas when he was injured in a four-wheeler accident and was paralyzed and needs a special wheel-chair lift van to be able to start putting his life back to some form of normalcy. I want to help by bringing attention to this event. First off bring your coolers, It's in Buffalo Gap at the Trails End Ranch and they've got a lot of Texas Music Bands playing like Callahan Divide, get to know Callahan Divide better by watching this introductory video.
