‘Star Wars’ Will Soon Have Its First Openly Gay Character
Much has been made of the diversity in the new era of Star Wars, with J.J. Abrams smartly casting the franchise’s first black and female leading characters in John Boyega’s Finn and Daisy Ridley’s Rey. They weren’t the only diverse part of The Force Awakens, which boasted a noticeably varied assortment of genders and ethnicities in its supporting and extras casting, but many fans are still wondering when — or if — we might see an openly gay character in the newly inclusive franchise. According to J.J. Abrams, it will happen, and soon.
‘Ghostbusters’ Star Michael K. Williams Confirms Slimer’s Return
There have been rumors since last fall that one particularly slimy character from the original Ghostbusters film would be returning for Paul Feig’s new film, seemingly confirmed by an IMDb credit. But then Feig went and did what J.J. Abrams tried to do with that whole Khan / Star Trek Into Darkness thing — he flat-out denied it, even though this was a pretty viable rumor about a character we all sort of expected would appear. Guess what? The rumor was true, and Ghostbusters star Michael K. Williams has confirmed it himself.
J.J. Abrams Wants to Manage Your ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Expectations
By dubbing their latest sci-fi thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, Bad Robot has done two things: They’ve made sure that fans will flock to see this thing, but they’ve also set expectations a bit high for a film that wasn’t originally connected to Cloverfield. And although J.J. Abrams says that this movie is merely a “blood relative,” the marketing isn’t doing anything to distinguish 10 Cloverfield Lane from its (sorta-kinda) predecessor. But Abrams would still really, really like you to know that these movies are not as related as the title would blatantly suggest.
‘The Light Between Oceans’ Trailer: Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander Want to Break Your Heart
The Light Between Oceans definitely looks like a Derek Cianfrance film: beautiful actors experiencing not-so-beautiful things in an emotionally devastating, intimate drama. The first trailer for the director’s follow-up to the divisive Place Beyond the Pines is here, featuring current Oscar hopefuls Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender in what could be an early contender for next year’s awards. If nothing else, this movie looks like it’s going to shatter your heart into a tiny thousand pieces.
‘Batman vs. Superman’ Will Get the R-Rated Treatment on DVD and Blu-ray
Thanks, Deadpool! As predicted by many (including Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn), it looks like studios are already taking the wrong lesson from the record-breaking, R-rated superhero film. While Fox has already given the green light to an R-rated Wolverine sequel, Warner Bros. is getting a jump start on their own edgier superhero offerings, as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will have an R-rated alternate version when the film hits DVD and Blu-ray.
‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Game Wants to See if You Can Survive in a Bunker
The viral marketing for 10 Cloverfield Lane almost feels more persistent and pervasive than the marketing campaign for Cloverfield — though as many of you will remember, those promotional puzzles weren’t really related to Matt Reeves’ monster film, but that doesn’t exactly seem to be the case with 10 Cloverfield Lane. A new piece of viral marketing fun has arrived online, this time offering a text-based simulation game (think Oregon Trail, minus the images) that challenges users to stay alive in an underground bunker for as long as possible.
Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ Photo Teases The Flash’s New Costume
Earlier today we learned that Zack Snyder will officially begin production on the first Justice League movie in April, and the director is already gearing up for DC’s epic superhero team-up. Snyder shared a behind-the-scenes photo from pre-production, featuring Jason Momoa and a few superhero costumes in various stages of completion — including Ezra Miller’s costume for The Flash.

Original ‘Star Wars’ Print Is Discovered and Restored by Anonymous Group
Back in 1997, George Lucas re-released the original Star Wars trilogy in digitally altered “special editions,” and asserted that these were the only “true” editions of the classic films. The original, unaltered versions became rare — you can find them on VHS, and they are included on a DVD release (though the transfer is poor), and there are some original 35mm prints floating around, but fans have been desperate for Lucasfilm to restore and re-release the unaltered versions on Blu-ray. While we wait for something that may never come, one anonymous group has uncovered an original 35mm print and cleaned it up.
‘The Jungle Book’ TV Spot Invites You to ‘Live the Legend’
Disney has released a new TV spot for The Jungle Book, offering a fresh look at Jon Favreau’s live-action / CGI adventure with a little bit of new footage thrown in for good measure. Titled “Live the Legend,” the spot opens with Ben Kingsley’s Bagheera, the panther mentor of young Mowgli, explaining the (bare?) necessity of returning the boy to the jungle.
Rumor: ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Tickets May Be Going on Sale Very Soon
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was more than just a film; it was an event, and the early ticket sales were so crazy that several websites crashed and people were trying to sell tickets on eBay at insane prices. Can Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice attract the same level of enthusiasm? If this rumor is true, then Warner Bros. seems to think so, as tickets may be going on sale for Zack Snyder’s film very soon.
