Brandi Carlile recently returned to the Austin City Limits stage, for a performance that will premiere on Saturday evening (Oct. 27). The Boot's readers can get an exclusive first look at "The Eye," a bonus, web-only song from the Americana star's performance, by pressing play above.

"We're gonna sing you guys a song, and it's all about three-part harmony right now," Carlile explained as she introduced the track. "This is the song that reveals that there really is no lead singer in this band called Brandi Carlile." The singer and her bandmates, Tim and Phil Hanseroth, then launched into a rendition of "The Eye" featuring close three-part harmony, attended sparsely by acoustic guitar.

"The Eye," which Carlile co-wrote with the Hanseroths, comes off of her 2015 album, The Firewatcher's Daughter. According to NPR, the song actually originated as two separate tracks that Tim Hanseroth was developing, but once his bandmates suggested he combine the two -- and added another verse, courtesy of Carlile -- the song's finished form began to take shape. Quiet and expansive, the sound reflects its subject: the tranquility that can be found in the eye of a hurricane.

This new ACL episode featuring Carlile is her first time back on the show since her 2010 debut. It's part of the 44th season of the iconic television show, and will showcase tracks from the singer's latest album, By the Way, I Forgive You.

Austin City Limits airs weekly on PBS stations nationwide. Additionally, full episodes will be made available for a limited time following the broadcast on PBS' website. Visit that website to find broadcast details for your area.
