Kane Brown is set to make his debut performance on Austin City Limits, and the March 3 taping of the show will be available to views via livestream on YouTube.  The Georgia native follows in the footsteps of iconic performers for ACL, such as Willie Nelson and John Prine.

Both legends, along with a diverse array of other acts, helped establish the stripped-down musical variety show's legacy of stretching musical backgrounds. That makes Brown -- a pioneer within the country world himself -- a perfect choice for the program.

Breaking genre conceptions about what is and is not traditional country, Brown has made a name for himself holding a strong foot in both traditional country sound and progressive pop-country. Additionally, he is known for pushing back the race and image narratives that have persisted for a long time in the country music industry.

"I’m just a guy who wants to make people realize you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover,” Brown says. “No matter what race you are, if you like country music, if you want to be in country music, then you can be. Just look at me, and come on.”

Swinging easily between a recent collaborative remake of Brooks & Dunn's classic country tune "Believe" to a rowdy live cover of the All-American Rejects pop-punk hit "Gives You Hell," Brown shows an effortless comfort in melding genres -- case in point: His recent remix with Khalid for "Saturday Nights" -- while still delivering some of the best country throwback sound coming out of new artists today.

Brown's unapologetic difference makes him an easy candidate for ACL, given their fearless support for groundbreaking artists. The taping will take place at the ACL set on March 3; the broadcast version will air on PBS during the 45th season of Austin City Limits.
