Three of the Biggest Texas Fall Festivals

With cooler weather approaching, fall festivals across Texas are ramping up. As someone who has personally attended two out of the three festivals, I can tell you, I couldn't stop smiling for days after attending Wurstfest and the Texas State Fair. Though I’ve never been to the Texas Renaissance Festival, it’s certainly on my bucket list. These are some of the most fun and largest festivals in Texas.

The State Fair of Texas

The Texas State Fair is the biggest event in the Lone Star State. Kicking off on September 27th, 2024, and running until October 20th, 2024, it hosts a variety of events like live music performances, livestock shows, creative arts competitions, food contests, daily parades, auto shows, and an exciting PRCA Rodeo. If you've never been, this one should be at the top of your bucket list.

Wurstfest, New Braunfels

In 1961, Wurstfest began as a small local festival, originally called the "Sausage Festival." What started as a one-day event has grown into a week-long celebration honoring sausage and local German culture. Conceived by Ed A. Grist, a local veterinarian and meat inspector, this event has transformed into a huge celebration, attracting over 240,000 visitors in recent years. The 63rd annual Wurstfest will run from November 1st to November 10th, 2024, featuring music, food competitions, and even a Squeeze Box (accordion) competition. It's a festival not to miss!

The Texas Renaissance Festival

If you want a truly immersive experience, the Texas Renaissance Festival is the nation’s largest Renaissance event. Located in Todd Mission, halfway between Houston and Navasota, the festival runs for eight weekends starting from October 12th through December 1st, 2024. Each weekend features a different theme, from pirates to heroes to villains. You can enjoy live jousting matches, mead (an ancient honey wine), turkey legs, costume contests, and live entertainment. It’s a must-visit for history buffs and anyone who loves stepping back in time for some fun.

Whether you’re looking for turkey legs, Renaissance thrills, or delicious sausages, these festivals have you covered. Make sure to plan your trips, and don’t forget to enjoy the fall weather Texas has to offer!
