What exactly is great customer service? Is there an official list of rules and or guidelines one must follow? To me, great customer service means following a code of good ethics of sorts, like first and foremost always having a great attitude, valuing your customers, always being positive, and being willing to go the extra mile for your customers.

LOOK: Want Great Customer Service ? Visit These Businesses

I recall something the great imaginer Walt Disney always said: "Always be willing to super-serve your customers." When I attended a Children's Miracle Network convention at Disneyworld in Florida I was told another awesome Walt quote stating that "one should take things a step further to exceed, rather than just meet customer expectations." Well said, Mr. Disney.

So, when I asked on-air and on our social media, "What are some Abilene businesses with great customer service?" We received a ton of great responses. While I posed the question I aimed it more toward "local businesses" like the mom and pop shops.

I admit, Abilene has a ton of great local businesses, and customer service is the main reason I frequent them more often. My hat's off to the big chain stores that got some shout-outs as well, but this is all about Abilene my hometown.

These businesses were recognized because their customers know great customer service when they receive it. One online customer service organization that is known as Help Scout.com has stated:

When customers feel like you value them — like they’re truly special to you — they’ll keep coming back. This may be linked with the phenomenon of reciprocity in social psychology: If you do something nice for your customers, they will want to do something in return — like buy your products and brag on you!
