Texas Fishers, The White Bass Are Coming Back
[WARNING: graphic video of fish being processed included in this content below]
As Texas has already seen several days in the mid-80s and even a couple days in the lower 90s, it's time to grab the tackle box and the fishing poles. If you're like me and looking to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, fishing is the best way to do it.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department just announced that the annual White Bass Run - a highly treasured tradition for Texas fishers - has already begun. What that tells me is to say goodbye to cold weather days and hello to an early spring.
Every year as the weather starts getting warmer, the white bass make the run upstream from our Texas reservoirs into our Lone Star creeks and rivers. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just a beginner, the white bass fish of Texas makes a beautiful trophy. It's pretty tasty too.
White Bass is also referred to as Sand Bass and is preferred by most all Texas fishers as a sporting fish. I prefer preparing and cooking the white bass more than catching it, because catching white bass is truly an art form.
A little fishing tip here...the white bass can be fished from the bank, your boat, your paddle board, and in many publicly accessible locations AKA fishing docks. Your best best to catch white bass will be in the eastern portion of Texas because of all the rain they have received in the past few months.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says, "While most riverside property is privately owned, public access to high-quality white bass runs can be found at many Texas State Parks, Texas Paddling Trails, leased River Access and Conservation Area (RACA) sites and highway and bridge crossings."
