Exciting times are returning to Abilene for the 2025 Texas High School Rodeo Finals at the Taylor County Fair Grounds. The event returns to the Abilene Taylor Telecom Arena for the week-long competition.

Texas Teens Ride for Glory, Scholarships, and a Shot at Nationals

The Texas High School Rodeo Association (THSRA) State Finals are stampeding back into Abilene June 5-14, 2025, and this year’s event promises more grit, heart, and horsepower than ever. The all-new Taylor Telecom Arena, located at 1700 Highway 36, now serves as the official home of these high-octane rodeo competitions.

A Big Country Tradition That’s 100% Rodeo

For over a decade, Abilene has been the summer home for Texas' best high school rodeo athletes. From bull riding to barrel racing and bronc-bustin' to my personal favorite, pole bending, these young cowboys and cowgirls compete not only for the title of State Champion but also for thousands in scholarship funds and the chance to move on to the National High School Rodeo Association Finals.

More Than Just Rodeo—Vendors, Food, and Fun

Western wear vendors, rodeo gear suppliers, handmade jewelry makers, and even student-run businesses will be set up around the arena. Plus, concessions will be open with plenty of food and drink to keep you fueled for all-day excitement.

Instant Replays Make a Comeback

THSRA Marketing Director Holly DeLaune says fans are in for a treat with instant replays on big screens, allowing everyone to catch those amazing rides, tight turns, and tough spills in real-time. That’s a big win for spectators.

Rodeo Royalty and Rising Stars

Every year I’m honored to welcome past and present Rodeo Queens, Student Body Leaders, and some of the top competitors into my studio for interviews. Hearing their stories, and seeing their dedication, it’s a reminder that this is more than sport. It’s a way of life.

And let me say again, pole bending is an art form. Watching those young ladies lean into every turn at lightning speed? Thrilling!
