As someone who grew up right here in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School, I learned early on that education, especially early access to college, changes lives. I took my first evening courses at what was then Cisco Junior College, now proudly known as Cisco College. That school helped launch my career, giving me two of my three broadcast certifications and building the foundation for everything I’ve accomplished since.

And because Cisco College opened doors for me, I encouraged all eight of my children to enroll there early, during high school, or right after graduation, so they could start strong and stay strong. If you’re a parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, or friend watching a young person chase their dreams, this is one of the best gifts you can give.

As we approach the end of the year, my friend Helen Usera, Executive Director of Development and Grants at Cisco College, reminds us that now is the perfect moment to support local students and strengthen our West Texas workforce.

Texas: Why Your Year-End Gift Matters

The Cisco College Foundation is working hard to “Build for the Future,” ensuring students have what they need to become the next generation of strong leaders, workers, and community builders in West Texas. Here’s how your gift makes a real difference:

1. Scholarships Change Lives

Not every student has the financial support to step into college confidently. Your donation expands scholarship opportunities and helps students who are ready to work hard but need a boost to get started.

2. Helping Students Meet Basic Needs

College students face more than tuition. Some struggle with food insecurity, transportation, and everyday essentials. Your gift supports the Cisco College food pantry, gas cards, toiletries, and emergency needs that keep students from falling behind.

3. Better Tools for Better Learning

Faculty at Cisco College can apply for innovation grants, small but powerful funding that provides upgraded technology, classroom tools, and resources that aren’t normally in the budget. These tools directly improve student learning and job readiness.

4. Building a Stronger Campus

Your donation also supports infrastructure improvements, including:

  • A new pitching lab for baseball and softball
  • Turf upgrades for the football practice field
  • Modernized learning facilities for future generations

When you invest in the campus, you invest in every student who walks onto it.
