Texas Economy Tops U.S. Growth Rate, Abilene Sees Big Job Gains
Texas is charging ahead economically. Fresh numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis show our state’s real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an annualized 6.8 % in the second quarter of 2025, far above the national rate of 3.8 %. Early signs say the third quarter could follow the same pattern.

Governor Greg Abbott called the new figures proof that “Texas is where free enterprise flourishes and families prosper.” He pointed to a strong, growing workforce and pro-business policies like cutting red tape and investing in career training.
Paychecks Are Growing Too
It’s not just big companies winning. Personal incomes in Texas jumped at a 6.4 % annual rate in Q2, topping the U.S. average of 5.5 %. That means Texans aren’t just producing more, they’re taking home more, fueling spending at restaurants, shops, and local events.
West Texas Momentum Is Real
Here in Abilene and the Big Country, that growth isn’t just numbers on a chart. Drive through town and you’ll notice it: busier restaurants, packed parking lots, and new faces on the roads. One of the biggest catalysts is the new AI data center project rising in northwest Abilene.
This billion-dollar facility is expected to bring over 1,000+ jobs and ripple effects across housing, retail, and services. Add in Dyess Air Force Base with the new stealth bomber, healthcare expansion, and a steady manufacturing base, and you’ve got an economy quietly humming, and now accelerating.
Why It Matters for Us
For local families, faster growth can mean more job options, rising wages, and a stronger tax base to improve roads, schools, and community programs. For small businesses, more paychecks and newcomers mean more customers.
Texas’ ability to keep its pro-growth edge, while investing in infrastructure and workforce skills, will decide how long this boom lasts. But right now, the momentum is clearly on our side.
