Breaking the Silence on Menopause: A Free Event for Women of All Ages

There’s a public health crisis in America, and Texas is no exception. It’s an issue hiding in plain sight, affecting millions of women, yet largely ignored by the medical industry: menopause. Despite being an inevitable phase of life, it’s often dismissed, misdiagnosed, and misunderstood.

For decades, research and healthcare funding have disproportionately overlooked women’s health concerns, leading to a shocking reality, over 85% of menopausal symptoms are never properly addressed. Even worse, nearly half of all women report that their healthcare providers fail to take their symptoms seriously.

Why This Matters for Younger Women

If you think menopause is a concern only for women in their 40s and beyond, think again. The reality is that the effects of menopause, and the lack of medical support for it, start long before symptoms appear. The sooner women educate themselves and advocate for better healthcare, the better their long-term health outcomes will be. Research shows that early menopause can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and dementia, yet too many women are left without the knowledge or resources to protect themselves.

The M-Factor: A Free Event at the Paramount Theater

For the first time in Abilene, an event is dedicated to shedding light on menopause and giving women the information they need to take control of their health. The Big Country Women’s Healthcare Fund is hosting a special screening of the documentary, "The M-Factor: Shedding the Silence on Menopause."

  • When: Tuesday, February 18, 2025
  • Where: The historic Paramount Theater, downtown Abilene
