Take a Tour Of The Abilene Zoo During Zoo Awareness Month
It's Zoo Awareness Month! Have you ever thought about going behind the scenes and snuggling up with some of the animals at the Abilene Zoo? I have, and I just discovered that up-close Animal Ambassador tours take place at the zoo on a daily basis. It's another way to learn more about the zoo's residents and how they live.
The tours take place on a daily basis for anyone 3 years of age and older. Go behind the scenes with the zoo's Animal Ambassador Team and encounter a variety of exotic animals. Find out what and how the animals eat, where they sleep, and what they do when they're not on display.
Many of these animals have been rescued by the Abilene Zoo or other conservation organizations, and you will have an opportunity to hear all their fascinating stories. You'll get to meet the animals you hear about and see at community events. This tour allows you to touch and take photos with some of Abilene’s favorite creatures.
These tours are scheduled every day around 1 pm. There is special pricing that goes with the up-close Animal Ambassador tours.
Experience Animal Ambassadors like:
- Three-Banded Armadillo
- Roadrunner
- American Alligator
- Screech Owl
- Tenrec
- Turaco
- Nine-Banded Armadillo
- Python
- Swainson’s Hawk
- Six-Banded Armadillo
- Raven
Each tour features a behind-the-scenes journey. Now the animals may change due to community events or education commitments, but the time is always full of beautiful animals for you to have a first-hand encounter.
Prices start at $30 for anyone age 3 and up (admission to the zoo not included). Zoo members receive a 20% discount. The tours are about 30 minutes.
