The Cross Plains Chamber of Commerce (COC) recently decided to reinstate the lighted Christmas parade. Myleah McNutt, the Chambers administrative assistant said "Cross Plains has not had a lighted Christmas parade for as far back as I can remember. We thought it was a good time to bring it back." The first annual Cross Plains Classic 5k is set for September 15th. This event is a run or walk  and there will also be a 1-mile walk option. All proceeds benefit the local Cross Plains Community Cancer Fund. If you per-register before September 1st, you'll receive a T-shirt commemorating the event. There's also a “Sleep-in” option. The Cross Plains public library was one of 78 libraries in America, chosen to participate in the 'Big Read' program. The library is set to receive an endowment for the arts. The 'Big Read' is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore and promote reading in America.
