VFW Post 6873 Hosts Garage Sale Fundraiser to Support West Texas Veterans

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6873 in Abilene is organizing a special garage sale fundraiser on Saturday, October 26th, from 8 AM to 2 PM. This one-day event aims to raise funds to support veterans across West Texas, with all proceeds going to benefit veterans' programs at the VFW.

Donate Items to Support Veterans

To make this event a success, the VFW is accepting donations of re-sellable items. The community is encouraged to drop off any gently used items that could be sold at the garage sale. Donation drop-offs will be accepted at VFW Post 6873, located at 1049 Veterans Drive, right across from the Dyess Air Force Base main gate. The drop-off dates and times are October 23rd, 24th, and 25th from 2 PM to 4 PM.

What Donations Will Be Accepted?

“We know one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” Mackie, a key organizer, shared. “But we’re asking for donations that are in good, resellable condition. We can’t take junk, as it costs money to dispose of it, and we won’t be accepting firearms either.”

The VFW is asking for items such as:

  • Furniture
  • Clothing
  • Jewelry
  • Tools
  • House décor
  • Any garage sale item

Vehicle Donations Welcomed

In addition to typical garage sale items, the VFW Post 6873 is also open to accepting vehicle donations, provided the vehicles are in running condition. “We’ll even entertain vehicle donations,” Mackie said. “These could be passed on to veterans in need through affiliated programs.”
