Supergirl has become the second CW DC drama to close out its season, and packing quite a punch at that. Not only did we get a Superman vs. Supergirl showdown, but also a Reign-ing hint at Season 3’s big bad, a Wonder-ous mini-crossover, and perhaps even a Legion of Super-Heroes tease!

You’re warned of full spoilers for Supergirl Season 2 finale “Nevertheless, She Persisted,” but Kara Zor-El of course managed to save the day in thwarting Rhea (Teri Hatcher)’s takeover of Earth. What was surprising, however, was that the Luthor-tech solution made Earth uninhabitable for all Daxamites, including Kara’s main squeeze, Mon-El (Chris Wood).

The younger Daxamite at least survived long enough for Kara to send him off-world in a pod, though the character’s final moments saw him seemingly caught in a portal to another location, and not by choice. The closing minutes of Season 3 at least gave us a major hint at Season 3’s villain (not Zod, though we’re keeping an eye on those Warworld references), as a Krypton flashback revealed some nefarious-looking scientists who sent a hooded baby to Earth mere minutes after Kara and baby Kal-El were shot off. The unidentified child was said to “reign” over Earth, almost assuredly pointing toward New 52 “Worldkiller” villain “Reign.”

The CW’s interpretation of said character is a question for the summer to answer, but in the meantime, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, Teri Hatcher and original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter got together for a brief promo of the upcoming film. In it, Kara gets to wear those imposing metallic red boots, teasing that she got them from “a friend.”

But why stop there? Many have observed that Mon-El being forced to leave Earth and winding up in another dimension bears a striking resemblance to how the comic character ended up with the Legion of Super-Heroes, the famed 31st century team that Supergirl has alluded to on a number of occasions. Might that mean Chris Wood could return in Season 3, with the Legion in tow? It’s not the craziest theory out there.

We’ll hear more of Supergirl Season 3 and beyond in the coming days, so stay tuned for the latest. How was Monday’s big finish overall?
