Super Easy Apple Pie – Shay’s Recipe of the Week
I'm not a huge fan of apple pie but my family is so I wanted to find the easiest possible recipe I could. I don't like spending a lot of time on things I don't like. There are a lot of recipes out there but I've tried a few and I think I have found the best, in fact, after making my last pie I was told I am now the sole apple pie maker in the house. I think that's a pretty good indication I found all the right ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 1 pkg (2 pre-made pie crusts) or make your own
- 1/4 c. flour
- 3/4 c. light brown sugar
- 1/4 c. dark brown sugar
- 1 1/2 t. cinnamon
- 1 t. nutmeg
- 1/2 stick butter (cubed into small pieces)
- 4 medium sized apples (2 tart granny smith, 2 sweet Gala, McIntosh etc.)
- 1 egg (use only egg white)
- raisins (optional)
Peel and slice your apples. I suggest getting an apple peeler/corer. This will make things so much easier on you. Prepare 4 apples.
In a bowl mix together your flour, brown sugars, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add in your apples and toss. Pour over pie crust and add some raisins.
Add your small cubes of butter over your filling and sprinkle with a little more cinnamon.
Cover with 2nd pie crust and pinch edges together. Brush egg white over top crust. This makes your pie turn a pretty golden brown.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Crust should be a golden brown filling should be caramelized and bubbling.
Let cool for 10-15 minutes and add a scoop or two of ice cream and serve.
