‘South Park’ Takes on Confederate Flags in First Season 21 Clip
South Park may have opted to skew less political in Season 21, but that doesn’t mean Matt Stone and Trey Parker will shy away from current(ish) events. Our first clip from the new season picks up where Charlottesville left off, as certain South Park townsfolk defend Confederate history.
Comedy Central and South Park Studios released the first clip from this Wednesday’s “White People Renovating Houses,” as Randy Marsh goes to court against the “took our jobs” mob and their insistence on waving Confederate flags. Curiously, there seems to be a tech angle involved as well; one marcher holding signs against Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and more, while another wears Halo’s Master Chief armor adorned with white supremacy logos.
Here’s the synopsis for “White People Renovating Houses”:
Protests break out on the streets of South Park in the season premiere titled “White People Renovating Houses” on Wednesday, September 13 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.
Protestors armed with tiki torches and confederate flags take to the streets of South Park. Randy comes to grips with what it means to be white in today’s society.
South Park episodes are famously put together the week before air, though it’s worth remembering that creators hoped to get away from the political slant that peaked in Season 20 (affecting the post-election “First Gentleman”), and return to “kids being kids.” Parker and Stone also doubted that we’d see much of its Garrison-Trump hybrid or the infamous “Member Berries,” though the topical nature of “White People Renovating Houses” could easily facilitate their return.
South Park Season 21 will premiere this Wednesday, so stay tuned for the latest.
