John Prine Walks the Red Carpet at the 2019 Grammy Awards [PICTURES]
Multi-nominee John Prine took a stroll down the red carpet ahead of the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 10). The Americana music legend appeared with his wife of more than 20 years, Fiona Whelan. The couple took a dramatic turn wearing all black, Prine sporting a gold-accented bolo tie for a folky flair. Whelan coordinated with her husband's nuanced accessories with a pair of dramatically jeweled gold and black heels.
Prine was nominated for Best Americana Album for his album The Tree of Forgiveness, and twice for Best American Roots Song for both "Knockin' on My Screen Door" and "Summers End." Having two songs nominated in the same category puts Prine in the unusual -- but not unenviable -- position of beating himself to the trophy.
With the release of The Tree of Forgiveness, 2018 became one for the books for Prine, and 2019 is shaping up to be a banner year as well. Just a month into the new year, the Americana giant has already experienced multiple unforgettable moments and substantial recognition for his accomplished career.
Earlier in 2019, it was announced that Prine is set to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, alongside Tom T. Hall and many others. He was also nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but didn't make the cut -- this time around, at least. Prine has been an active singer and songwriter for more than 50 years.
