Waco, Texas may be the home of Dr. Pepper, but all eyes are in Lufkin this time for Dr. Pepper lovers. Now, obviously, Dr. Pepper isn’t just another soda, it’s Texas through and through. First sold in Waco back in 1885, the drink has spent more than a century cementing its place as the state’s signature sip, it's also now the second biggest soda brand!

The Amazing Dr. Pepper Ad Found in Texas

In Lufkin, a routine renovation turned into a sweet discovery when workers uncovered a vintage Dr. Pepper mural that had been tucked away for decades. The faded ad, splashed across the side of an old jailhouse, instantly became the talk of East Texas and a nostalgic reminder that the Lone Star State has always had a taste for its hometown soda.

The newly uncovered mural in Lufkin is believed to be nearly 100 years old, painted back when wall ads were the main way to grab a thirsty Texan’s attention.

I know I absolutely love seeing these types of vintage ads, there are several here in El Paso that I love, so I know this discovery has got to be a big deal!

As soon as the mural came to light, Lufkin city leaders knew it wasn’t something to paint over and forget. Demolition work on the old jailhouse was paused while crews and city officials checked the building’s structure and figured out how to protect the piece of history.

Mayor Mark Hicks told the Lufkin Daily News that even the local Dr. Pepper distributor showed interest in helping preserve the mural. On social media, the city encouraged residents to “stay tuned” as they explore options, promising updates soon.

While the mural’s future is still being decided, the discovery has already stirred up plenty of excitement in Lufkin and beyond. It’s a reminder that Texas history has a way of popping up in the most unexpected places, sometimes even on the side of an old jailhouse.
