Winter chills are coming to Lubbock sooner than usual this year with a taste of freezing weather already sweeping the South Plains this Halloween.

We also know that Texas is expecting a harsh winter thanks to El Niño. So, it is important to be well prepared in case we see a similar freeze as the 2021 winter storm that knocked out the power grid throughout Texas.

Atmos Energy is an energy provider in Lubbock specifically natural gas, and they recently sent out a guide to their customers. The guide is titled ‘Ready. Set. Winter!’ and is a guide to prepare for winter, including energy conservation and overall stay safe in the winter.

Their suggestions for preparing for winter include:

  • Perform routine household safety checks including inspecting natural gas piping, appliances, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, and more.
  • Use energy wisely to save on monthly bills.
  • Sign up for alert texts to receive updates related to your energy services.
  • Follow your energy providers on social media to stay up to date on the latest news.

These are simple things that can make a difference once winter hits. However, it doesn’t cover things like having emergency kits on hand, how to stay warm if you loose power, and other tips in case of a terrible storm.

If you would like to learn more about those things, I suggest doing your research and finding a source like this guide, that can provide helpful information.

Stay safe. Stay Smart. Stay warm.
