Where has the summer gone? Everybody is getting in the back-to-school mode. It'll be here before you know it. Then, it's like once you get settled with classes and everything, it happens. Homecoming. The time when old and new students alike come together to celebrate the spirit of their school.

Almost always there are special events, even dances, and mixers. But, many people have their eyes on football. Yeah, that's right, the big homecoming football game. Maybe the biggest game of the year for rooting and showing school pride. After all, nothing screams West Texas football like a homecoming.

Even writing this gets me excited for fall and football. The first chill in the air, wearing jackets to the games. It definitely takes me back to my high school days in the Panhandle of Texas, go Sandies. Every year a big group of us would go, grab a bite then head to the game and root like crazy for our team. Some years were sweet with a victory, others were not. But, either way it fell, there's nothing like making those memories.

There's a reason every good high school football movie is based in Texas. Here in the Lone Star State Friday nights are revered and our young men in football pads exalted to legends in their hometowns. In fact as of last year, Texas is only second to Florida (by two players) as the state with the most players in the NFL.
