Abilene Flying Bison Home Runs Already Helping Provide 15,000 Meals Across West Texas

I love a good home run. The crack of the bat, the crowd jumping to its feet, and somebody chasing a baseball that just landed three zip codes away. But this season, Flying Bison home runs are doing a whole lot more than adding runs to the scoreboard.

Thanks to a partnership between the Abilene Flying Bison, Oracle, and the Food Bank of West Central Texas, every Flying Bison home run this season triggers a $1,000 donation to help fight hunger across the Big Country.

The crazy part? The Flying Bison have only hit two home runs so far, and that's already generated enough support to help provide more than 15,000 meals for local families. That's a pretty impressive stat line.

Food Bank Night at the Ballpark Is June 17

Now it's our turn to step up to the plate.

Food Bank Night is happening Wednesday, June 17, at Crutcher Scott Field at ACU. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and if you bring a bag of nonperishable food items, you'll score a free ticket to any remaining 2026 Flying Bison home game.

That's a win-win. You help families in need and get another night at the ballpark.

What Food Items Are Needed Most?

The Food Bank says some of their most-needed items include peanut butter, canned meats, canned beans, fruits, vegetables, rice, pasta, and cereal.

Let's be honest. Most of us probably have a few extra canned goods sitting in the pantry right now. Grab a bag, bring it to the game, and help make a difference.

One of the things I love most about West Texas is that when people need help, folks here show up.

The Food Bank of West Central Texas serves 13 counties and is on track to distribute nearly 5 million pounds of food this year while helping around 90,000 neighbors across the region.

So if you're heading out to watch the Flying Bison on June 17, bring some food with you. You might not hit a home run that night, but you'll help somebody who really needs it.

And that's a pretty good reason to cheer.
