Battle Of The Badges Kickball Tournament Pits First Responders Head To Head

If you grew up in Texas, chances are you played kickball until the streetlights came on. You dodged red rubber balls like your life depended on it, argued over whether somebody was safe or out, and probably slid through enough West Texas dirt to ruin a perfectly good pair of jeans.

And let's be honest...kickball was basically Little League for the kids who just wanted to absolutely launch a red rubber ball into another ZIP code.

The second I saw the Battle of the Badges Kickball Tournament, I was instantly transported back to elementary school. I could hear that unmistakable THWACK when your foot connected with the ball. I could smell the gym floor, the fresh-cut grass, and picture that one kid who treated recess like Game 7 of the World Series. Guilty.

A Texas-Sized Good Time for a Great Cause

The Battle of the Badges Kickball Tournament takes place August 28-29, 2026, and pits teams from Police, Sheriff's Office, Fire Department, EMS, and 911 Dispatch against one another for bragging rights, a cash prize, and, most importantly, to raise money benefiting our local first responders.

Think about it...the people who answer our calls on the toughest days are spending a weekend having some fun while giving back to the community. That's pretty dang cool.

Round Up Your Team

Registration is $150 per team, with 8-12 players per roster, and co-ed teams are encouraged. The deadline to register is August 15, while the tournament location and game times will be announced soon.

I'll be honest...my brain still thinks I can leg out an inside-the-park home run. My knees, however, have filed an official complaint.

Still, a bunch of Texans kicking a red rubber ball around, talking a little smack, and raising money for our hometown heroes? That's about as Texas as it gets, and I absolutely love it.
