If you've spent any time scrolling social media lately, you've probably seen people arguing about Stargate here in Abilene. In fact, I’m sure other communities in Texas that are getting these huge AI data centers can probably relate.

Some folks see it as a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Abilene. Others worry that the massive AI data center project could bring unintended consequences to the Key City.

Now, a new website called Save Abilene is putting those concerns front and center.

What Is Save Abilene?

The website, Save Abilene, was created by local residents who say they're concerned about the long-term impact of the Stargate project and the rapid growth happening around Abilene.

The group raises questions about housing costs, infrastructure, water usage, electric demand, tax incentives, and whether the economic benefits being promised will ultimately outweigh the costs for everyday residents.

Whether you agree with them or not, they're asking questions that many people around town are already discussing.

The Stargate Project Continues To Spark Debate In Abilene

Let's be honest. Few projects in recent memory have generated as much conversation in Abilene as Stargate.

Supporters point to the jobs, investment, national attention, and economic growth the project could bring to Abilene and the Big Country. Critics worry about rising rents, increased strain on local resources, and whether the average Abilenian will actually benefit from a project of this size.

And that's exactly where Save Abilene has planted its flag.

Why Folks In Abilene Need To Have This Conversation

No matter which side of the fence you're on, this is a conversation worth having.

Growth can be a great thing. It can bring new opportunities, new businesses, and new energy to a community. But growth also comes with challenges, and it's fair for residents to ask questions about how those challenges will be addressed.

Personally, I think every Abilenian should take a few minutes to read what Save Abilene has to say and then do their own research. Heck, even if you are not in Abilene, this might be worth checking out.

At the end of the day, this isn't just about Stargate. It's about the future of Abilene, and that's something every one of us has a stake in.
