This West Texas Lodge Feels Like a Hidden Time Capsule
I’ve visited Davis Mountain State Park several times over the years, and one thing I always wondered during those hot summer trips was, will the Indian Lodge pool ever get that much-needed facelift? I've asked the same of the Abilene State Park" Well, presto the Indian Lodge just got it. Just in time for the blazing Texas summer, the pool has officially reopened, and so has the rest of this iconic West Texas retreat.
A Piece of Historic, Beauty Has Finally Been Restored

The Indian Lodge tucked away inside Davis Mountains State Park in Jeff Davis County, has long been a favorite for travelers seeking quiet, scenic beauty, and historical charm. It was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), its white adobe walls and rustic pueblo architecture reminded me of the years when my dad was stationed in New Mexico. The Indian Lodge has stood as a historical reminder of our history.
Now, after extensive renovations, this historic lodge is back and better than ever. I can't wait to take my family there for an awesome summer fun getaway.
What’s New at Indian Lodge
The remodel touched nearly every corner of the lodge. Upgrades include modernized air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems—along with new doors, windows, and a redesigned courtyard that blends into the rugged beauty of the West Texas landscape. Even the fire alarm system got an overhaul, ensuring both comfort and safety.
And yes, the pool is back open, fully refurbished, and ready for summer fun.

Stay in Comfort and History
One of the coolest things about Indian Lodge is that you can stay in both the modern and historic sections. The preserved original CCC rooms still feature hand-carved cedar furniture, 18-inch thick adobe walls, and ceilings made from Pine Viga and Latilla. If these walls could talk, I bet they’d tell stories about generations of Texans coming to escape the heat and soak up the mountain air.
