Here’s the 2024 Lineup for Outlaws & Legends Music Fest
Singer-songwriter Mark Powell, founder of the annual Outlaws & Legends Music Festival, has announced performers for the 2024 event. This year's big surprise is rock/country music legend, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
The 2024 Outlaws & Legends promises to be bigger than ever before with this being the final tour year for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I recall playing them back in the 1970s on a little AM rock radio station in Dallas, in Salt Lake City, and all throughout West Texas. Their very first song I played on the radio back in 1973, and I still have the eight-track tape.
"Mr Bojangles" is the song that introduced me and many other Americans to the band from Long Beach, California. The strangest thing about the song "Mr Bojangles" is that it never made it to the number-one position on Billboard's charts. However, the song did top the charts in Canada and New Zealand.
When the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band made the switch from Top 40 Rock to Country, they also dropped "Nitty Gritty" and began dominating the country charts from 1976 to 1982 as the "Dirt Band". Interestingly, in 1977, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was the very first American pop group to perform in Russia and on Russian television.
It's easy to see why the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is on so many people's bucket lists. They've had numerous hit songs and have won nearly every award imaginable. So buy your tickets and prepare to see the final tour of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at Outlaws & Legends in Abilene, Texas.
Also appearing live at the 13th Annual Outlaws & Legends Music Fest:
