Driving to and from the Dallas/Fort Worth area I always notice that castle sitting on the hilltop just above the New York Hill Restaurant and have always wondered what it was used for.

My imagination always takes me away to a time and place where kings and queens ruled the land thanks to the might of their knights. However, the castle in Thurber isn't from that time or place.

But, it's still as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Known as Greystone Castle, this royal estate is the centerpiece of a 6,000-acre ranch used for hunting, weddings, and all kinds of other events.

The Thurber-Mingus area of Texas used to thrive as throngs of immigrants moved there to work in the railroad and coal mining industries. But, by the 1930s, railroads moved away from using coal power thus drying up any employment opportunities in the area.

So while Thurber may be but a ghost town, Greystone Castle is thriving with life thanks to the crowds who flock to the place for trophy hunts, fishing, and more.

Take a moment to look at some of the photos of Greystone Castle in the gallery below.
