George Lopez’s Show Canceled by TBS
If you’re a fan of ‘Lopez Tonight,’ you only have one more new show to enjoy before it’s gone for good because TBS has canceled it.
In a statement, the cable channel explained the move, saying, “[We have] reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of ‘Lopez Tonight.’ Thursday will be the final episode of the show. We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air.”
Premiering in the summer of 2009, ‘Lopez Tonight’ was the network’s first foray into late-night gabfests. The following year, Conan O’Brien had his big fallout with NBC and TBS snatched him up for the 11 p.m. hour, bumping ‘Lopez’ back to midnight. Since then, the Latino comedian’s show has lost 40 percent of its viewers, which was undoubtedly a contributing factor in the decision to cut him loose.
After Thursday’s finale, TBS will air ‘Lopez Tonight’ reruns for a few weeks before replacing it with reruns of the popular sitcom ‘The Office.’
