Enjoy Free Holiday Festivities At Safety City This December
For nearly five decades, Safety City has held a special place in my heart, and in the hearts of countless West Texas families. This miniature city, operated by the Abilene Fire Department and the Abilene Police Department, has taught generations of children how to stay safe, stay alert, and look out for one another. As someone who has broadcast live from Safety City for years, I can tell you there is no place in Abilene quite like it.

Located at the Melvin Martin Center for Children’s Safety on South 7th Street, Safety City transforms every December into a glowing holiday village filled with lights, laughter, and memories that last a lifetime.
Dates & Times for “A Night of Lights” 2025
This year’s celebration, now officially called A Night of Lights, will shine bright across two festive weekends:
- December 11-13, 2025
- December 18-20, 2025
- 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM nightly
And the best news of all? Admission is absolutely free. Free for families, free for kids, free for anyone who just wants to walk through a winter wonderland built by the people who keep us safe.
I’ll be broadcasting live one of those nights to remind parents and grandparents: these are the moments your kids will remember forever.
What You’ll Experience at A Night of Lights
Families can expect everything they loved from last year, and more:
- A beautiful walk-through display of sparkling Christmas lights
- Free hot cocoa and cookies at the concession stand
- Meet-and-greet with Santa Claus
- A special appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog
- Fire engine tours hosted by Abilene’s firefighters
- Plenty of photo ops for your Christmas cards and social media memories
It’s a simple, wholesome, old-fashioned holiday event, built on love, service, and community.
