DPS Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug Seizure in Carson County

In a significant drug bust, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized over 16 pounds of suspected cocaine and nearly two pounds of suspected fentanyl during a routine traffic stop in Carson County. The incident occurred this past Friday, September 6, around 5:00 p.m., when a DPS Trooper pulled over a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east on I-40 near Conway for a routine traffic violation.

Once the Trooper started looking around, he discovered multiple plastic-wrapped blocks of cocaine and a plastic-wrapped bag of fentanyl hidden within the vehicle. The driver, who was identified as 40-year-old Stephane Davis from Roanoke, Virginia, was immediately arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Davis was subsequently booked into the Carson County Jail.

Drugs Were En Route To California & Virginia

The DPS Special Agents, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agents, were called to assist with the investigation. My friend Marc Couch the Public Information Trooper said that the preliminary reports indicate that the drugs were en route to Corona, California, and to Roanoke, Virginia.

Nonetheless, this arrest brings attention to the constant drug trafficking that's running out of control within the Lone Star State. Texas, known for its extensive border with Mexico, has been a significant entry point for illegal drugs and human trafficking into the United States. The state’s law enforcement agencies, including the DPS, have been working tirelessly to intercept and dismantle these criminal operations.

DPS Vigilant To Protect Citizens

The seizure of such a large quantity of drugs highlights the critical role that routine traffic stops can play in uncovering and preventing the distribution of dangerous substances. The DPS continues to remain vigilant in its mission to protect the citizens of Texas from the scourge of drug trafficking.

As the investigation continues, authorities are hopeful that this arrest will lead to further insights into the broader network of drug trafficking operations that span across state lines. The collaboration between DPS and federal agencies like the DEA is crucial in the fight against the illegal drug trade, ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
