Texas Pride Runs Deep: Why Every Texan Should Celebrate Our Independence
I believe that every Texan should know the story of how and why Texas fought for its independence. Yet, many people don’t realize that the Battle of San Jacinto lasted only 18 minutes. In that short time, General Sam Houston and his outnumbered Texas army defeated Santa Anna’s forces, securing the Republic of Texas.
As a dad of eight children, I ensured that before my kids graduated elementary school, they all knew what Sam Houston and the brave Texans of 1836 did to give us the Lone Star State we proudly call home today. Texas is more than just a state, it symbolizes strength, independence, and resilience.
Today, Texas creates more jobs and small businesses than any other state in the U.S. That spirit of hard work and determination has made 'Texas' one of the most successful states in the nation. This is why the Abilene Woman’s Club Foundation has been proudly celebrating Texas history and culture with an annual event called "Celebrate Everything Texas."
