The Mayor of Boston, Tom Menino,  has decided to ban all sugary drinks from city buildings.  This is to reduce the obesity rate of the city, which is on the rise.I have to get on my soap box here for a minute.  When do we get to the point where we finally tell the

government machine to get out of our private lives?  New York wants to control our salt intake, Boston wants to control our sugar intake and a Chicago school is banning kids from bringing lunch from home because school lunches are more healthy(really?).  Enough is enough.  If I'm not mistaken America is a "free" country.  When did we give one person the right to decide what is best for us.   Yes, of course, everything should be done in moderation but that's for me to decide not you or anyone else.  Ugggg!!

So anyway here's what the city has proposed.  City buildings will not be allowed to have vending machines containing sweetened teas, sodas, coffees, energy drinks, sports drinks, or juices containing added sugar.  You will be able to get diet drinks, 100% fruit juices, low fat milk, seltzers, etc.  The mayor says:

"I want to create a civic environment that makes the healthier choice the easier choice in people’s lives, whether it’s schools, work sites, or other places in the community," said Menino in the press release issued last week about the soda ban

Oh, and he's decided it's okay to serve mixed alcoholic beverages at Fenway Park during baseball games.  Am I the only one that sees a problem with this mans logic?
Alright, I'm done, for now anyway.  What's your take on this?  Do you agree that this ban is a good idea or not?
