The Best Flowers for Valentine's Day in Abilene – What You Need to Know

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, it's time to start thinking about flowers. But if you're like me, you've got questions: What kind of flowers should I get? What color theme should I go with? Where should I buy them? Do I have them delivered or should I deliver them or have them waiting at home? So, I asked listeners what are your favorite flowers and what color, because I can't decide.

To get some expert advice, I also reached out to a couple of florists I know. Turns out, red roses are still the top choice for Valentine's Day in the Lone Star State and around the Big Country, no surprise there. But I was a little shocked to learn that yellow roses, often associated with friendship and Texas, are actually the second most popular pick. Tied for third place are pink and purple roses, each carrying their own special meaning.

What’s the Most Popular Valentine’s Flower in West Texas?

I thought I had this one figured out, but Tresleigh, owner of Baack's Flowers & More, gave me an interesting insight: "Favorite flower choices tend to be generational. Baby Boomers prefer classic roses, while Gen Z and Millennials lean towards mixed arrangements with carnations, alstroemerias, Corinthian lilies, Stargazer Lilies, and other unique flowers to create a vibrant bouquet." That means if you're shopping for flowers this year, you might want to consider your Valentine’s age and personal taste before making a decision.

Order Early – Supplies Are Limited

Tresleigh was very adamant about this one thing: If you plan to buy flowers for Valentine's Day, order them EARLY. With supply shortages and a lack of workers in the floral industry, waiting until the last minute could leave you scrambling for leftovers or nothing. Now, my only dilemma, should I have them delivered, or should I surprise her at work and hand-deliver the bouquet myself? Either way, flowers are a must.
