Asleep at the Wheel Announce ‘New Routes’ Album Release, Drop New Song ‘Jack I’m Mellow’ [LISTEN]
Asleep at the Wheel are back with a whole new sound. The group has announced the release of their first new material in over a decade, the album New Routes, due out Sept. 14. Ahead of the project, the band has shared a first taste of "Jack I'm Mellow;" readers can press play below to listen to the classic jazz-swing tune.
Founded by Ray Benson in 1970, Asleep at the Wheel have been swinging their way across nearly five decades of music, with an ever-evolving lineup of world-class musicians generating an eclectic concoction of jazz, Western swing, jump blues, rockabilly, folk and country music. Over the years, they have produced 25 albums and won 10 Grammy Awards, among many other accolades. Their newest album promises a reinvention of the historic band, with new members, original songs, and a guest appearance from Scott and Seth Avett of the Avett Brothers.
The legendary band's current iteration includes Benson on lead guitar and vocals; Katie Shore, a new addition, on fiddle and vocals; Eddie Rivers on steel guitar and saxaphone; David Sanger on drums; Dennis Ludiker playing fiddle, mandolin and vocals; Josh Hoag on bass; Connor Forsyth on piano and vocals; and Jay Reynolds on sax and clarinet.
New Routes is set to release on Thirty Tigers. Asleep at the Wheel will be kicking off a tour across the U.S. on July 13 as well; for a complete tour schedule, visit their website.
