Abilene’s Girl Scouts Invite You to Learn S’Mores About Being a Scout
I have often stated in the past that I firmly believe that every child should spend some time in scouts in some way. I was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout growing up, and I attribute a lot of the successes in my life to the knowledge I gained while in scouts.
The local Abilene Girl Scout Council is having a Girl Scout S'mores event where you can come find out S'mores about Girl Scouts. S'mores are a Girl Scout cookie that they've been selling for years, it's a clever play on words.
If you know any young girls that would like to go into scouting you'll want to attend this event coming up Saturday, August 20th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at 4150 Southwest Drive (in the Girl Scout Council offices). During this Girl Scout S'mores event, they will answer the questions "what is Girl Scouts" and "how can you be a part of scouting" plus they'll be serving up those awesome Girl Scout S'mores cookies.
I wholeheartedly believe that scouting prepared me for the real world and that is why I carry my pockets full of things my wife calls useless. They may appear to be useless until there is a need for them. Case and point, during the snowpocalypse in West, Texas we found ourselves out in the country at our horse barn and I needed to build a fire.
I did not have a lighter or a match on me, but I did have my Boy Scout Flint striker on my key chain. I won't go into detail because if you know anything about scouting I was able to light that fire within 3 minutes. My point is scouting works.
