Here’s What’s Fueling Abilene’s Rapid Growth
I'll be honest, in my humble opinion, Abilene doesn't feel like the same quiet West Texas town it did when I first arrived years ago.

Everywhere I look, there seems to be new construction, new businesses, more traffic, and more people moving to the Big Country. While some longtime residents may miss the slower pace, it's hard to ignore the positive momentum happening all across our community.
That growth immediately came to mind when I read Governor Greg Abbott's latest announcement that Texas has reached another all-time high for jobs.
Texas Continues To Set Employment Records
According to the Governor's Office, Texas reached a new record with more than 14.4 million nonfarm jobs in May. The state added nearly 100,000 jobs over the past year and continues to outpace the national job growth rate.
Governor Abbott credited Texas's business-friendly environment, skilled workforce, and continued economic development efforts for the state's success.
Those numbers represent the entire state, but here in Abilene, we're seeing that growth firsthand.
AbiMar Foods Announces Major Expansion
One of the biggest recent announcements came from AbiMar Foods, which revealed plans to invest $15 million into its Abilene operations.
The expansion is expected to create more than 500 new jobs, providing opportunities for local families and strengthening Abilene's economy for years to come.
I recently had the opportunity to tour the AbiMar Foods facility and see firsthand the operation that employs so many hardworking people right here in the Big Country. It's impressive to watch a company continue investing in our community and workforce.
AI Projects Continue To Fuel Growth
AbiMar isn't the only sign of growth. My friend Tonya Harbin, a Real Estate Broker, explains 5 Things Impacting the Big Country.
Major artificial intelligence and technology projects continue moving forward in the Abilene area, bringing new investment, construction activity, and future job opportunities.
As these projects develop, they're helping attract additional businesses, workers, and families to our region.
The Big Country Is Helping Lead The Way
Whether it's manufacturing, technology, healthcare, education, retail, or construction, Abilene appears to be growing in nearly every direction.
That's why Governor Abbott's statewide jobs report feels a little more personal here at home.
When Texas sets records for job growth, communities like Abilene are helping make it happen.
The Big Country isn't sitting on the sidelines. We're helping power Texas' economic future.
