Support Farolitos Recovery: Help Mark and His Staff Rebuild
In times of hardship, it's the strength of our community that shines when we come together for a common cause. For nearly 90 years, Farolitos Mexican Food Restaurant has been a beloved West Texas staple, serving great food and fostering a family-friendly atmosphere. But now, due to a tragic motorcycle accident involving Mark Herrera, the third-generation owner and chef, the tables have turned, and the Farolito family needs our support.
Farolito's temporary closure has left Mark’s dedicated staff without work or income. Mark's expertise and family recipes are irreplaceable, as he’s been the first one in the restaurant every morning, preparing every dish to perfection.
As big-hearted West Texans, the Abilene community is stepping up. On Saturday, August 24, 2024, Farolito will host a brisket sandwich fundraiser to raise funds for Mark and his employees to help cover their essential expenses. This event offers the community an opportunity to enjoy great food while showing appreciation for Mark and his team.
For those unable to attend, a GoFundMe page has been established to provide financial relief to Farolito’s employees. Every dollar raised will help them stay afloat while Mark recovers. The restaurant’s Facebook page has been flooded with words of encouragement, prayers, and support from the community.
"We appreciate everyone’s prayers! We will be back, but this is going to be a long road for Mark," the Farolito team shared on Facebook. "Any donations are much appreciated! We can’t wait to see everyone when we reopen."
Mark Herrera has been a fixture in Abilene for decades, and now it’s our turn to support him. Whether by donating to the GoFundMe page, attending the brisket fundraiser, or simply spreading the word, every bit helps.
Together, we can ensure Farolito's legacy and its staff are supported during this difficult time. For updates and ways to contribute, visit Farolito's Facebook page or their GoFundMe campaign. Let’s come together as the Big Country always does. We are united, strong, and ready to help our neighbors.
