One of the most joyful traditions in Abilene is returning to the historic Paramount Theatre, the Abilene Community Band’s annual Christmas Concert. This year’s concert will take place on Tuesday evening, December 9th, at 7:30 PM, and admission is absolutely free. Donations are welcome and go directly toward supporting the band’s mission of bringing live music to West Texas.

This year’s concert project is supported in part by a grant from the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council, an organization that continues to help keep performing arts alive and thriving in our city.

A Band Rooted Deep in Abilene’s History

The Abilene Community Band holds a special place in our town’s history. Their first performance was on July 4, 1976, during Abilene’s bicentennial celebration. Nearly 50 years later, they are still performing at civic events, church fundraisers, community celebrations, parades, cultural festivals, and anywhere people gather to celebrate life and music.

When Abilene needs music, this band always shows up.

A Personal Connection: The Man Who Made Music Fun

For me, this concert is more than a holiday performance, it’s personal. The founding director of the Abilene Community Band, Mr. Joe Stevens, was my band teacher from 6th grade all the way through high school.
He didn’t just teach us how to play music… he taught us to feel it.

He made music fun.
He made it exciting.
He made every student believe they could do something great.

Even today, the band continues that same energy. When they perform, you can see the excitement in every musician on stage. The songs they choose bring back memories — childhood Christmases, family gatherings, and that feeling of wonder we only get this time of year.

A Gift to the Community, At No Cost

In a world where everything seems to be getting more expensive, the Abilene Community Band continues to give our community the most priceless gift of all, joy, togetherness, and music.

Bring the family. Bring friends.
Make it a tradition.
