‘The Raid’ Remake Puts ‘The Expendables 3′ Director in its Sights
We feel bad for everyone involved with the upcoming remake of ‘The Raid.’ Then again, they brought this uphill battle on themselves when they set out to make an American version of the wildest, craziest and most giddily violent action movie of the past decade. We feel especially bad for Patrick Hughes, who is currently in negotiations to direct the westernized version.
This news comes from The Wrap, and for all we know, Hughes could be the man for the job. He directed the well-received ‘Red Hill’ before nabbing ‘The Expendables 3,’ so it’s not like he’s a stranger to good filmmaking. However, the source of our hesitation (other than the fact that ‘The Raid’ is really great) comes from his involvement in the ‘Expendables’ franchise, which has showcased lousy taste and and lousy action. Maybe Hughes has brought some much-needed panache to the third entry in this already exhausted series, but we’ll continue pre-judging the American version of ‘The Raid’ until we see a trailer for ‘The Expendables 3.’
‘The Raid’ remake was written by Brad Inglesby and will be produced by original director Gareth Evans and XYZ Films. The article above mentions that Chris and Liam Hemsworth are rumored to star, which is fine by us. More movies should make use of the Hemsworth clan.
