If you're one for Lovecraftian horror and trippy cinematic experiences, the latest from filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead is right up your alley. The Endless, which debuted back at the Tribeca Film Festival, is a twisty mind-bender about a mysterious cult.

The film stars the writer/director duo as two brother who return to the cult they escaped as children to learn that the cult's beliefs might not be entirely false. The first trailer has a heavy dose of freakish imagery, from two moons hovering in the sky to a creepy dude smiling outside the entrance to their camp. It has a sci-fi vibe similar to The OA with hints of strangeness reminiscent of Upstream Color, which is enough to pique my interest.

Benson and Moorhead are best known for their two previous horror thrillers. Their 2012 film Resolution was about a man and his junkie friend stuck in a cabin in the woods. And our own Britt Hayes and Matthew Monagle have praised the filmmakers' 2015 monster love story Spring, which melds romance with body horror. By the looks of the early reviews for The Endless, their latest may be their best film yet.

The Endless screens at Fantastic Fest this weekend, and though it was acquired by Well Go USA out of Tribeca, it as yet to get a U.S. release date. Fingers crossed we get this weirdness into our eyeballs soon.
