Texas Rangers Outfielder Pitches Scoreless Inning in Blowout Loss to the Boston Red Sox [VIDEO]
The Texas Rangers were losing so bad against the Boston Red Sox last night (June 4th), that they decided to rest their bullpen, and put in outfielder David Murphy to pitch. And, it actually worked.
Now, the Rangers didn’t come back to win or anything like that. But, Murphy, who was actually a pitcher in high school, became the only Rangers’ pitcher of the night to throw a scoreless inning.
Down 17-5 in the 8th inning, and wanting to rest his bullpen, skipper Ron Washington, put Murphy in the game to pitch. He struck out his first batter, then had a few pop ups to get out of the inning. Murphy became only the 6th position player in Rangers’ history to come in and pitch.
