‘SNL’s Andy Samberg Lands FOX Sitcom from ‘Parks and Recreation’ Producers
Never fear, Andy Samberg fans. The timing of the unfortunate ‘That’s My Boy‘ with Andy Samberg’s ‘SNL‘ exit does not mean that the “D*ck in a Box” funnyman has abandoned TV for movies. In fact, we’ve just learned that Samberg has signed onto an untitled FOX comedy from the creators of ‘Parks and Recreation,’ but who will the new sitcom see Samberg playing? And what does it mean for the fate of ‘Parks and Recreation?’
Only a few short months off from ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and already Andy Samberg is headed back to TV. Don’t look for the former ‘SNL’ breakout star on NBC however, as Deadline reports Samberg will next take his talents to FOX for an untitled sitcom from ‘Parks and Recreation’ co-creator/show-runner Mike Schur and executive producer Dan Goor.
The single-camera comedy will follow Samberg as the lead officer of “a diverse group of detectives in a precinct at the very edge of New York City.” A script for the series has yet to be completed, but Samberg’s casting all but assures the project will at least go through to a pilot order.
âAndyâs hilarious, and he was the first guy we thought of when we designed the part,â Schur and Goor said in a statement. âFrom the moment we mentioned his name, everyone at Universal Television and Fox was 100% on-board. Andy loved the pitch, and it all came together really quickly. We couldnât be happier.â
What say you? Does the ‘Parks and Recreation’ heads working on a new FOX show bode ill for Leslie Knope? Would you watch Andy Samberg as a sitcom detective?
