Rodney Atkins is back with his first new music in a while, and the country singer is in a completely different place in his personal life than he was the last time we heard from him.

Atkins and his wife, Rose Falcon, married in 2013, and the couple welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Ryder Falcon Atkins, in December 2017. Atkins was glowing over his son when he came by the Taste of Country Nights studio to talk about his new song, "Caught Up in the Country."

"It sounds like a superhero," the "Watching You" singer says of his son's name.

Asked if Ryder might eventually pursue music, Atkins says, "My wife says he's going to be a UFC fighter, because his hands are so big."

Atkins also has a 16-year-old son named Eli from his first marriage, and he might have inherited the musical gene.

"He is into a lot of different things; for instance, he'll pick up a guitar, learn a few chords and play some stuff, but I don't know if he's all-in to wanna do music," Atkins says. "Hopefully, Ry will just be well-rounded and have the influence of music to be creative as an outlet."

Atkins scored his most recent No. 1 hit with "Take a Back Road" in 2010, and his last single was "Eat Sleep Love You Repeat" in 2014. He recorded "Caught Up in the Country" with the Fisk Jubilee Singers, and he says it's a song that he related to very personally.

"I love what it says about being outdoors," he observes. "I feel a connectedness ... it makes me feel grounded and peaceful. There's comfort in being outside in a spiritual way. It's just a special song, and I heard it in a way that it wanted to be heard as an anthem."
