It takes for ever, it seems, to get something built. Especially when it comes to road work. However, it only takes a matter of seconds to destroy the structure. That's demonstrated when an Ohio bridge was blown up, on purpose, for safety reasons.

The old bridge in Steubenville, Ohio had been a landmark for more than 80 years when it was decided by the powers that be that it should go.

The Fort Steuben Bridge was built in 1928 and served as the primary link between Ohio and West Virginia, but in recent years had been replaced by a more modern bridge.

It was a spectacular explosion that was planned to the last detail. The crew used 490 charges that were placed in 136 places along the bridge. It took over 150 lbs of explosives to demolish the bridge in just seconds.
